I received another splendid, birthday gift, this one from my beautiful friends/coworkers, Melissa and Tracy, which (along with a couple more that they tell me are on the way) got postponed via a delivery hitch. The wait, though, was well worth it, for this particular gift hits a major, sentimental spot for me.
It's a Kexle, 12" x 8.5", tin sign listing five of Aurora's famous, monster model kits, all of which I'm proud to say I've possessed since I was a boy. The "World Wide Specialties Department," advertisement, in this regard, rekindles so many fond memories associated with the Aurora scene, even beyond the models featured. (Heck, it was the Frankenstein Monster kit that kicked this series off for me in 1969: a Valentines' present from my parents, which then led to my getting the Phantom of the Opera the following week and the Hunchback of Notre Dame the next. I also recall how it took forever-and-a-day to track down the Creature, how I skipped around with the still-sealed, Mummy box in my grandfather's backyard after a fulfilling visit to Kiddie City and how my dad ran out of glue when constructing the Forgotten Prisoner. Man, did he ever cuss up a storm!)
I thank Melissa and Tracy for allowing me to trek down Monster Lane. Indeed, ladies, this quaint sign did the nostalgic trick and then some.💕
