Jim Main asked me to pen an article on acclaimed artist, Paul Orban for Pulp Fan #5. I'm proud as Punch to have completed the assignment. (The article will now act as a swell companion piece to the Margaret Brundage one I composed for #4.)
Orban is an extraordinary artist, who made deft use of pen and ink to enliven such icons as the Shadow, the Avenger and Doc Savage.
For my essay, I analyze Orban's use of contrasting pigments to depict sprints of moral-based action and consider how pivotal aspects of his life influenced his awesome art.
Stay tuned for additional details on my contribution, as well as Pulp Fan #5 on the whole. It's bound to be another pop-cultural dandy.
