Mr. Lobo's Cinema Insomnia's latest oldies.com/Alpha New Cinema release is Italy's Cosmos: War of the Planets (aka Year Zero - War in Space/Cosmo 2000), not to be confused with the Gamma One chapter of more or less the same name, even if it's just as quirky.
Directed and co-written by Alfonso (Gladiators 7) Brescia, this highly "misunderstood", '77 space opera (the first in what became a five-part franchise) stars John (One Million Years B.C.) Richardson as brash Starship Captain Fred Hamilton, who tracks strange signals into deep space, only to discover a planet where a bulked-up HAL taps its silver-skinned inhabitants of their vim. (Gorgeous Yanti Somer costars.)
As with any Italian, sci-fi exploit, War of the Planets would work well as a cozy backdrop for a spaghetti-and-meatballs meal or in the very least a brimming bowl of buttered popcorn.
Mr. Lobo once more injects his erudite affability throughout this galactic, Cinema Insomnia presentation, which features renowned horror host, John (Creature Features) Stanley; the beautiful, blue-crowned space babe, Cosmonauti (Stephanie Hyden); and the mecha-furry Ro Mana.
Cinema Insomnia's War of the Planets is a venturesome, heart-in-the-right-place submission and as such, an indubitable must-have!
