On March 15, Fathom Events returns "King Kong '33" to cinemas, courtesy of Turner Classic Movies.
Written by Ruth Rose and James Ashmore Creelman (from a concept by Edgar Wallace), produced by David O. Selznick, Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack and directed by the latter two, "King Kong" sports mind-boggling, stop-motion effects by Willis O'Brien, a rollicking score by Max Steiner, and an iconic cast that includes Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong, Bruce Cabot, Noble Johnson and Frank Reicher, among other memorable performers.
"King Kong" has stood the test of time for its exotic wonder, monster/dino attacks and related, relentless action, which features the most spectacular climax in film history.
No CGI concoction (and that includes the "Jurassic Park" entries) can match the ferocity of "Kong '33". There's no question that it will remain revered for centuries to come, inspiring and thrilling audiences time and again.
Be sure to revisit one of the greatest, titanic labors of love ever conceived--"KING KONG"!!!
I don't care what anybody claims. "Kong '33" is still unparalleled. After watching it again on the big screen, I came away realizing how superior it is to even today's best of the best: a remarkable achievement that only gets better with age.
ReplyDeleteWould have been cool, though, if TCM/Fathom had added "Son of Kong" to the bill. The sequel can't match the splendor of the initial chapter, but it's still a fun follow-up and in my estimation, a most underrated one.
