Over the past week, I've been more than a wee riled about Marvel's moronic move to reinterpret Cap as a Hydra agent: a helluva stunt, especially when folks are yet attending his latest film adventure, and to add insult to injury, the horrid news struck right before Memorial Day.
I had to do something to counter this blasphemous decision (get back to basics, that is) and so on impulse purchased a cute, "Civil War" caricature set: not that I'm into such super-deformed representations generally, but under the troubling circumstances, thought this might alleviate some of the pain.
For what it's worth, Jada's 4" die-cast metal figures are quite detailed, even if they're essentially spoofs.
Though Cap's proportions are exaggerated, he's still true-blue to his source (in the movie sense and by no means Hydra-sided). He even shows some bruises from battling Iron Man, in a rift that now seems less harsh in light of recent developments.
Iron Man matches Cap's shape, but his metal composition suits him far better. Like his friend/contender, he's battle-worn, with realistic scrapes and dings.
The set's packaging is appealing, with colorful red, white and blue graphics. The box also acts as a respectable display case for those who prefer the mint-in-box route. (Incidentally, one can also purchase the duo separately.)
This blockbuster-linked tie-in certainly proves that a little angst between heroes is far better than seeing one turn so evil. (Damn you, modern Marvel! I hope and pray that this ghastly gimmick is quickly explained away and that it never find its way into film. For now, though, I'll just enjoy this Jada set for the inherent purity it conveys.)
